Context

A vertical villa built from Singapore's design language.

Artyzen Singapore occupies the former site of Villa Marie, a 1940s tropical-garden residence associated with Tan Hoon Siang, the great-grandson of philanthropist Tan Tock Seng.

The new hotel reinterprets the idea of the tropical villa vertically, through arches, terraces, verandas, gardens, balconies and shaded outdoor spaces.

Nic Graham & Associates developed interiors informed by Singapore's Straits and Peranakan heritage through pattern, art, color and material.

Open Research

The Takeaway

The sourcing is more interesting than the shopping list.

01

Designer product + project customization

A recognizable product like Palecek's Baldwin chair can become much more specific through custom finishes, COM and designer-selected upholstery.

02

Residential look, hospitality material

The rooftop seating illustrates a common hospitality move: preserving the visual character of natural rattan while switching to powder-coated aluminium for exterior durability.

03

A hotel is a network of sources

Artyzen Singapore combines architects, interior designers, lighting consultants, decorative-lighting suppliers, technical lighting providers, furniture brands, project distributors, custom fabricators, artists and art consultants. No single retailer or manufacturer explains the finished space.
